About IMPULSE

IMPULSE – House for Intellectual Innovation and Creativity - welcomes teachers and researchers at Bonn University: Professors, post-docs, doctoral candidates and students. The house at Adenauerallee 131 offers space for special concerns and special formats of scientific exchange between members of Bonn university and their collaboration partners.

IMPULSE is built on the belief that receiving and passing on impulses lies at the heart of scientific research. Built in 1901, the house offers four floors and a great variety of rooms with regard to their design and use. Among those, you will find rooms for events and group work alongside creative spaces and several individual offices. The work and event settings offered in these rooms evolve around an innovative, creative and experimental use of time and space. They facilitate working on current challenges in the fields of study of Bonn’s scientists in a focused manner. IMPULSE as a specific space thus expands the possibilities for inter- and transdisciplinary research at Bonn University.

As a special thinking space and meeting place, IMPULSE is aimed at the university as a whole. Starting in 2024, a transdisciplinary management team representing all seven faculties coordinates formats, events and funding programmes. All members of Bonn University are invited to propose ideas for innovative events and formats to IMPULSE.

09.-11.09.2026: Officer Disobedience in Military Organisations Across Epochs and Cultures

In modern thinking, “disobedience” is often defined in ethical terms: as defiance of legitimate authority, which is to be condemned; or conversely as resistance to illegitimate power or illegal orders, which is regarded as morally laudable. In military settings past and present, obedience has conventionally been regarded as a crucial virtue. Scholars who research its absence usually look at collective disciplinary breakdown such as mutiny, or acts of individual non-compliance such as desertion, focusing on insubordination in the ranks. Individual elite disobedience in military organisations is only rarely studied and almost never treated as conceptually distinct, even though disobedience in the higher echelons of military organisations can have (and has had) serious consequences, including battlefield defeats, the derailment of peace negotiations, and the incitement of military coups, mutinies or rebellion. This workshop aims to establish individual elite disobedience in military organisations as a discrete phenomenon and the object of a new field of research. The space at the venue is restricted, leaving room for only a small number of additional participants. It will, however, be possible to participate online via Zoom. Sie bringt all diejenigen zusammen, die sich an der Universität Bonn und in ihrem Umfeld für Gaming, spielerische Formate und die Vision einer spielerischen Hochschule interessieren. Émile Durkheim Forschungsstelle zieht ins 1. OG ein

In der ersten Etage der Adenauerallee 131 ist nun die Émile Durkheim Forschungsstelle: Krisenanalysen zu finden. Ab dem 1. September 2026 wird auch das dreijährige interdisziplinäre EU-Horizon-Projekt „Law in Crisis“ seine Arbeit aufnehmen. Wir freuen uns auf den Austausch, neue Perspektiven und die Impulse, die sich aus der neuen Nachbarschaft ergeben.
